Reddy for Christmas - the kitchen

ENG: The last of Nora and Helmer's rooms I will show you is their kitchen. I have wanted to present it earlier, but for a long time Nora has refused to have it photographed, because she wanted it to be perfectly neat and tidy first. And with a husband, two children and a dog, that never seemed to happen. (I suspect her standards are a bit higher than mine). This weekend she sent Helmer and the kids away and had time time to clean and prepare the house for Christmas. On Saturday when these pictures were taken, she had just decorated the kitchen window. She had also been out shopping, and was relaxing with a well deserved cup of tea.
If you look close, you can already spot a red box with the marzipan Christmas pig on top of the fridge. It's the traditional prize for the person who finds the almond hidden in the Christmas porridge.

It's winter now and the daylight vanishes quickly.

Credits: Kitchen from Lundby, but I have put on other tiles. The table and chairs are ebay finds. The red and white cupboard is by Barton. Accessories are finds over the years, Lundby, re-ment and self made (the curtains and some of the tools on the bench). My son has made the paper towelroll. The marzipan pig in box is made by Cocco. The floor is painted by me to look like linoleum, because the original floor was in a bad shape when I bought the house.

So very homey and realistic! It looks like a 1:1 kitchen. I love all the details and touches of red. Is that real pasta in Nora's shopping bag?! Perhaps you will give us a closeup of the pig one day? It looks fabulous! I hope Nora enjoyed her tea in peace. I had some tea myself this weekend, but it was accompanied by a chocolate treat! :)

So cute! Love the red - my modern 1:12 kitchen (still in planning stage, not yet 'installed') is black and white with red accents, red gives a nice little touch 'drama' I think.

By the way, I can sympathise with Nora not wanting anyone to see a less than perfect kitchen, the hold-up with the instalation of doorknobs in my 1:16 house is keeping the photgraphers at bay :) Oh what a shame it is to be a perfectionist! hehe

Thanks callsmall! Nora's has generally a more homey taste than me, as you can see in her kitchen :-)
You have a good eye for details, yes it's (almost) real pasta in her bag. They are tiny, tiny pasta screws bought in Paris, and her shopping bag is from Paris as well. I will take a close up of the pig later one day when the sun is shining so I can get a decent photograph of it. It's absolutely beautiful made!

Thank you Norma, your kitchen sounds like the dream kitchen Polly Line wants for Christmas :-)
Luckily I'm not as much as a perfectionist as Nora. If I had been, I never would have been able to post anything!

I absolutely adore your attention to detail! It looks just like a real life kitchen, all the little details just so right! and so much to look out for, in each picture! the kitchen roll! the checked dish cloth, the shopping in the shopping bag! I couldn't stop smiling when I saw the green bin liner in the bin! perfect!
I agree with Nora, sometimes you just wants things a certain way or else it wouldn't do :-)

Thank you Ara, so nice someone appreciates my digressions :-)

Thank you very much for your kind comment Nicola! And congratulations to both you and Christine with your new Stockholm house! I'm looking forward to see how you furnish it! (And good luck to Christine with her manhunt, I'm looking forward to that as well :-))

Thank you Natalie, you're so kind!
And I love your attention to my details as well :-) And of course Nora and Helmer has to recycle too. The green bin liner is for organic waist. (A much larger bin than ours though :-))

Darling Helene, I have missed this post! I have been so crazy bz that I could not even finish answering friends' comments and then I will see all the posts I missed and digressed. Like now..lol!

I always do my kitchen 1st, whenever I move. Strange because I do not cook. Even for dollhouses, I love fixing the kitchen 1st. Is this a woman thing?

All your attention to details tells me that you are very hands on where your own kitchen is concerned. Please tell sonny that his paper towel roll is fabulous! Your paint job does make the floor look linoleumish but I am going blind trying to see the marzipan pig, lol. Is that a real tradition in Norway? That's why I love reading your posts. I learn something every time I am here.

dear helene

thanks for the long answer :) christine and me ;D are very happy we have found the stockholm... the story is to long to tell here. it came with some furniture, but some not lundby. so i´m looking for some pieces of the continental kitchen and a special diningroom, too. you know, i like to have it all from the same period like the house. and yes, christine needs good luck with her manhunt - the assortment is not very well :( if you find a goodlooking (lundby)husband in her age, please tell me... i guess the children will arrive of its own volition ;D

Thanks Sans! I have been so busy this last month too and late on commenting on others blog, so I fully understand! Now Mari has got the swineflu, (Almost totally recovered now, so no danger)and that means more laidback days for me :-)
My own kitchen doesn't look anything like this, it's more sleak with birch furniture, black bench and lime green walls. And even almost all of my kitchen tools are in the same lime green colour :-) But it was the first of our rooms to be finished, so I guess you're right, even though in my doll's house world this is the first kitchen to be finished :-)
The marzipan pig is a freal tradition, it's hidden inside a red box on top of the fridge, but I will take a better picture of it for you later.

I love this kitchen, Helene, so light and bright and lots of room to move! The Barton dresser is one of my favourites with its angled sides - and I love all the little pieces on it, the measuring jug, and the red-striped bowl, and the egg cups! Marvellous! It looks like Nora has everything she needs to cook - and a transistor to listen to while she does. I'd love to have a kitchen like this :-)
(ps Is Mari your daughter? I hope she's better now, and glad it wasn't too serious.)

Pubdoll said...

Thank you Rebecca! I love the Barton dresser a well, it's one of my latest additions, the rest of the kitchen furniture is more than 10 years old. The transistor is from my childhood. The measuring jug and the red striped bowl are both from re-ment. But the little egg cups and the jam container next to them are gifts from Cocco, bought in France.
I buy lot's of re-ment sets in return and keep what I can use in my scale and give her the things that suits the scale of her Actionman :-)

Mari is my seven year old daughter and she's almost fully recovered from the flu now, thank you for your good wishes!

Liebe Helene,
