Eggs

From my childhood I have a red Arne Jacobsen egg chair by Brio with matching footstool (See it in use here) and last year I was so lucky to get one of the new egg chairs made by Minimii from Cocco. The size of the chair from Minimii is: Height 6,69cm Debth: 4,94cm Width: 5,38cm and is 1:16 according to Minimii. I have searched the net to find the size of the fullscale Egg chair and found it is Height 107cm, the Debth is 79cm and the Width is 86cm. So Minimii's chair is a perfect 1:16 scale. (3/4" scale)
My old Brio chair is slightly larger, the Height is about 7.5cm which means the scale is about 1:14.

On popular demand (I hope you read this Cocco :-)) I have taken pictures of the two chairs together to show you the difference. Click on the photos to enlarge them.

Thank you Natalie! The purple Minimii chair is my favourite too, it's detailing is so exquisite!

Now you've done it...we'll all start running to the web to buy our Minimii chairs!!! This is such a fun post, and is terrific eye candy for the end of the day! I would not necessarily have put those two colors together, but they really complement each other. Now you just need to Photoshop in you and Cocco sitting in the chairs! :)

Oh, scale! You know it hurts my head! lol ;)

Love both of the chairs. :)

But, I think my fav is the red chair. Red is such a happy color. :)

Thanks callsmall, I'm happy if Minimii sells more chairs because of me. So far I only have this one, but I have ordered some other ones as well, so stay tuned :-)

I used the colours together just to show the scale, but I did like the combination when I softened it with the grey background.
When I was young and slim I sometimes used a bright red sweather together with almost purple blue miniskirt and pants, it looked alright then, but I definitely couldn't get away with it now :-)

Thanks Carol! This was Cocco's idea, but I had fun taking the photos, the chairs look so different from different angles.

Thanks Dale! You're not alone :-) Even though the red chair is Brio and not Lundby, I think it still proves the point I often make that many doll's house makers don't know scale either. The Brio chair was supposed to be 1:16 scale as well and most new Lundby items are also too big.

I like both colours, so I can't choose which one I like the best, but do you know you can get the egg chair in pink as well? :-) (Not the bright pink you prefer though)

Way before I was into dollhouses, I already love these mini chairs. I own a few real life versions , bought them in those days when I was into the modern classics and only when they were on 90% sale. I could never afford most of the ones I really love, like the marshmallow and yes, this egg chair. :). Space is a huge problem. These are lovely specimens and you don't ever have to worry about chairs :).

Sans, I love designer chairs, but just in miniature :-) So far I have yet to find a designer chair I just have to have and miniature chairs take up almost no space at all (and the price is a fraction of what the fullscale ones cost too) But my Enigma lamp from Louis Poulsen makes me a bit happy every day :-)

Oh, I don't have to have hot pink, I love all the pinks. :)

Is is available in 1/12th scale? :)

Hi Dale. So far they make it just in the 1:16 scale, but according to Mini Dork the website indicated at one point a 1:12 kit version of their Arne Jacobsen house would be available, but as she also writes, there's no mention of it on the website currently, so I guess not.

Reac has the egg chair in 1:12, but not with the same flocked fabric, their's is in red plastic. I haven't seen their chair in real life, but judging from the photos I prefer Minimiis version.

Helene, can you please email me at normabennett@hotmail.com - I'd like to discuss making a little couch for you :)

Hmmm.... I wonder if I could make myself one... :)

Pubdoll said...

I'm just as sure that you would could make it yourself Dale, as I'm sure that I couldn't! :-)

There was one girl, I think her name was Helena (:-)), that made one, but now I can't find her blog!

I hope you will give it a try and I would love to see the result!

Hi Helene! I just found your blog....because you found mine....because I commented on your painting on San's ......don't you just LOVE blogland? I am enchanted by your world...even though the scale is a little smaller...that just makes it more interesting to make/find/collect all the pieces! I have not been aware of Lundby houses...and the clean modern lines are a real change from the eras I am building...:)but you are making them so PERFECTLY modern! They are beautiful! If you are reading my blog you will know I am still unsure of how "modern" my Lovely Old Dollhouse will end up being....I grew up in old houses with a mix of old and modern things (my Dad is an architect of modern houses).....so now I am VERY tempted to add the spice of modern to the house...especially after seeing those chairs!!! Love them! I LOVE your blog!

Hi Betsy! Yes blogland is wonderful, but with the danger of becoming very timeabsorbing since one blog always leads on to another, and then another... :-)
Yes, like I said on your blog I like the limitations the 1:16 scale gives. But with the Lundby items, it's also the scale where it's quite easy to find a lot of modern style items for a reasonable price.
I have said that the Reac designer chairs in 1:12 scale could be a good reason for me to do the bigger scale since they are both fantastic and cheap! But now when Minimii is producing Arne Jacobsen design chairs I'm becoming more and more pleased with my 1:16 scale :-)

But when talking about modern, most of the design chairs I use in my blog was designed early in the last century, like the Barcelona chair from 1929 and the egg chair from 1958, so not all that modern after all :-)

Debora said...

I too love the early twenty century designs... Erik Jørgensen, Arne Jacobsen, Charles Eames, but most of all Hans Wegner.

Great pictures, as you already explained; It's all about the angles, the colors, the shapes etc... LOVE EM!

Pubdoll said...

Thank you Debora. As I said earlier it was fun to take these pictures. Not as difficult as to take pictures of whole rooms either :-)

I love all of these men mentioned and Alvar Aalto too. I must admit I like Charles Eames more than Wegner, I love his playful attitude :-)
